Winemaker’s Comments:
Our ‘Good Earth’ tier celebrates specific vineyards showcasing a distinct style of a particular varietal unique to that vineyard site. ‘Gap’s Crown’ consistently demonstrates all that is excellent in the noble Pinot Noir grape – but with a quality…a ‘typicity’ that can only be traced back to this location.
Our Humanitas 2008 ‘Gap’ Crown’ Pinot Noir exudes the personality of the place – it is stunning, complex, generous, serious – it has great pedigree and is absolutely memorable. Enjoy a glass or bottle of this wine with duck, pork loin, salmon, or just a hunk of hearty bread & a selection of moderate cheeses. I drink this wine in so many circumstances – not just with food – though it really seems to add so much to so many foods. It is refined – choose the company with whom you will enjoy it appropriately. Then plug in some sultry tunes, settle into a positive mood, don’t be afraid to head into some heady conversation, and enjoy. It is deep.
Rooted to the steep, western-facing slopes of Sonoma Mountain, ‘Gap’s Crown’ is planted to Dijon clones 115, 777, & 828. Rocky, well-drained soils stress vines shrouded in summer fog from the Petaluma Gap. Tiny, concentrated berries yield an intense, stylistic Pinot Noir. It is a vibrant expression of the cool Sonoma Coast region.
Wine Description:
Deep violet color; strawberry/raspberry/rhubarb compote nose & flavors layered with aromas of dark fruits, spice and that cedar cigar wrapper with maybe a touch of orange zest. Big, rich, lush and silky on palate with attractive black cherry, spice and earth flavors. Great structure and grip.
